Getting Started with Bedford Eagles
New to basketball or new to Bedford Eagles? Start here for a quick overview of our programs and what families can expect.
New Players Are Welcome
Players do not need previous basketball experience to register with Bedford Eagles. Beginners are welcome.
Players register in the age division that corresponds with their age. For the 2026–27 season, age eligibility is determined as of December 31, 2026.
For regular league programs, players participate in the Player Classification Process so they can be placed with players of similar current skill and development whenever possible.
Our Programs
Little Eagles
An introductory program for children aged six and seven, focused on basic basketball skills, movement, confidence and enjoyment.
One one-hour session each week for approximately 14 weeks.

For U10 through U18 players. Players attend Player Classification before rosters are formed and may be placed on Recreational (REC) or Competitive (REP) teams.
Teams generally practise during the week and play Metro Basketball League games on weekends.

Where offered, Boys House League provides a Bedford-based development option for eligible players following Player Classification.
One regular training session and one scheduled game each week.

Age groups are based on the player’s age as of December 31, 2026.
Little Eagles players must be at least six years old by that date. Five-year-old children are not eligible.

- Regular league players attend Player Classification sessions.
- Bedford Eagles forms available rosters based on classification results, registration priority and program capacity.
- Families are notified of placement and practice information once rosters, coaches and gym assignments are confirmed.
Registration does not guarantee placement on a particular roster, team or division.

Player Classification allows evaluators to assess each player’s current basketball skills, game knowledge and overall level of play before regular league rosters are formed.
Players may be regrouped during the process with athletes demonstrating similar current skill and development levels.
The results help Bedford Eagles make appropriate roster-placement decisions within the available team capacity.

Bedford Eagles uses gyms in Bedford and surrounding communities, and Metro Basketball League games are played at locations throughout HRM.
Practice days, times and locations are not available when registration opens. Some teams may practise outside Bedford because of limited gym availability.
Bedford Eagles cannot guarantee a particular practice day, time or location.

Players should have indoor athletic or basketball shoes, comfortable athletic clothing and a labelled water bottle. Program-specific uniform and equipment information is provided separately.

Can my child register if they have never played basketball before?
Yes. Bedford Eagles welcomes new and developing players.
Does my child need to try out before registering?
No. Players register first. Regular league players then attend Player Classification before rosters are formed.
When will we know the practice schedule?
Practice schedules are confirmed after teams, coaches and gym assignments are finalized.
Can we register if we played for another club last season?
New and out-of-area registrations are considered under the Bedford Eagles Registration Priority Protocol and available program capacity.
